SHORT DESCRIPTION:

This route celebrates nature in a fun and sporty way, featuring mighty castles and ruins belonging to once-feared knights. This loop won’t fail to impress you, as you take in all there is to see through the Dahn Rockland and the Naturpark Pfälzerwald-Vosges du Nord (Palatinate Forest/Northern Vosges Nature Park).

STARTING POINT AND HOW TO GET THERE

  • Staring point: From the B10 in Hinterweidenthal, take the B427 towards Dahn
  • Public transport: Take the train to Bhf Hinterweidenthal (Hinterweidenthal Train Station). Between May and October, you can take the train from Bhf. Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe Train Station) (“Felsenland Express”, Sat/Sun/bank holidays) or Bhf. Mannheim (Mannheim Train Station) (“Bundenthaler”, Sun/bank holidays), or from Bhf. Neustadt/Weinstraße (Neustadt (Weinstraße) Train Station) on Wednesdays to Bhf/Haltepunkt Bruchweiler (Bruchweiler Train Station/Stop).   • Parking: There are car parks close to the starting and finishing point.

TOURDESCRIPTION

The 41 km robber baron cycle trail starts at the village exit of Bruchweiler-Bärenbach and is well signposted with the castle symbol. It is a challenging circular trail and requires a certain degree of physical fitness due to its multiple inclines. This tour for epicureans unites nature, fun and sports. The trail passes the most famous medieval castles and castle ruins of the Palatinate Forest. Profit from one of the guided tours in order to learn more about legends and myths as well as the life of the robber barons. Enjoy the magnificent view over the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve with its legendary rock formations from one of the viewing platforms. Along the entire trail romantic places, huts and beer gardens invite you to linger and enjoy.
