For those keen to discover the city, it offers hustle and bustle, cosy cafes, squares to people-watch and marvel at the sights, as well as a whole host of cultural attractions. STARTING POINT AND HOW TO GET THERE
THINGS TO SEE
The starting point for the sightseeing tour is the area in front of the train station in Karlsruhe. The route leads past the Zoologischer Stadtgarten (Karlsruhe Zoo) and Festplatz (Festival Square) with the Kongresszentrum (Karlsruhe Convention Centre), heading north along Ettlinger Straße into the city centre. You will also discover the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe (Baden State Theatre) and the Ettlinger Tor shopping centre along this route. At the obelisk on Rondellplatz, you will first turn onto Markgrafenstraße and then onto Adlerstraße. As you arrive at the Zirkel perimeter road you will see the KIT | Karlsruhe Institute of Technology university campus on your right-hand side. The tour then takes you straight on to Karlsruhe Palace with the Badisches Landesmuseum (Baden State Museum).It then leads through the Palace Gardens past the Staatliche Majolika Manufaktur (Majolika Porcelain Manufactory Museum)to the Botanical Gardens and the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe (State Art Gallery).Heading towards the city centre, you will pass the Federal Constitutional Court, Platz der Grundrechte (Square of Fundamental Rights)and the Museum beim Markt (Museum at Market Square);heading south you will come to Marktplatz (Market Square)with the pyramid, the town hall and the Evangelical Church.Arriving at the obelisk again it takes you via the picturesqueFriedrichsplatz past the Federal Court of Justice to the ZKM | Centre for Art and Media and the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe (Municipal Gallery). From there you follow Vorholzstraße back to our starting point.
